Normal Maintenance for Aluminum Storefront Doors

An aluminum storefront door is a great investment, on multiple levels, for your business. Durability? Check. Security? Check. But like any investment, they need to be properly cared for in order to keep them working, and looking, their best. Let’s take a look at a couple of important things to do to maintain your aluminum doors

Keep Them Clean

Make it part of your store’s daily routine. Oils and dirt build up over time and they can do damage to your door if it’s not taken care of regularly. Soap and water is all your really need, along with maybe a bit of polish from time to time. It’s important for your locks as well, it’s a bit of a security risk if your locks aren’t working properly. But also, people don’t want to walk into a store with a grimy-looking storefront. Keep it clean!

Inspect Aluminum Doors Regularly

Take the time to inspect your doors on a regular basis. Look for any signs of wear and tear and make sure that the door is functioning properly. Is it closing properly? Does it sound OK? Anything out of the ordinary should be noted and diagnosed ASAP. Quirks in its use may be the sign of a failure soon to come.

Protection from the Elements

If you live in an area with harsh weather conditions, make sure to take the necessary precautions to protect your doors. This may include installing weatherstripping or using a door cover if severe enough. Obviously, this is important for the inside of your store as well, considering that if the door is failing to handle the elements well, it’s not long until these issues start showing up indoors.

Repair Any Door Damage

Cracks, dents, and even scratches or debris should be taken care of ASAP. Failures in the door frame can have a knock-on effect across the rest of its structure and need to be handled to prevent further damage. Dents, dirt, and scratches can generally be handled pretty easily but if the damage is severe enough don’t be afraid to call a pro.

These are just some simple tips to help prolong the lifespan of your aluminum doors. Generally, they’re quite durable and can last quite a while all on their own, but keeping up on them and watching out for any potential damages will carry them even further.
