How to Repair or Replace an Existing Garage Door Panel

Your garage door was a beauty in its day, but that was some time ago. Now it’s in serious disrepair. In fact, it needs a panel or two replaced. Can your garage door still be repaired?

Sure, you can repair individual panels on your garage door — so long as the make and model of your garage door are still being manufactured. With a little ingenuity (and the skilled experience of a garage door repair professional) you may even be able to retrofit a different make or model door section from the same manufacturer. We don’t necessarily recommend this. (And it probably isn’t covered by your warranty.)

Give us a call. We’d be happy to check and see if your current garage door is still being manufactured. If it is, we can help get you the spare parts that you need. And we’d be happy to install it. If you prefer, this is also a fairly easy DIY garage door repair, if you have the right tools and are somewhat good at fixing things.

A Word of Caution

If your garage door panel is deteriorating because of age and not damage caused by an accident, chances are other parts of your garage door are deteriorating. And you’ll just be putting off the inevitable by replacing the panel. Also, if you have to replace more than one panel, technically you can but more than 2 becomes cost prohibitive. You’re better off replacing your whole garage door.

If your entire garage door is deteriorating, perhaps it’s time to bite the bullet and replace the whole thing altogether. The good news new garage door installation has an incredibly high return on investment — 98%, virtually dollar for dollar. What you spend on a new garage door is essentially added to the equity of your home. In fact, a new garage door is one of the smartest home improvements you can make.
