Is your garage the family dungeon where garden tools go to die? Is it stacked floor to ceiling with old clothes and family knickknacks from the 1980s? Can you barely even open your garage door for fear of what’s inside?
Considering your garage is probably the largest enclosed space in your home, that’s a lot of wasted space. Wouldn’t you love to get something more useful for that square footage? If you’re not using the space for vehicle storage, there are plenty of awesome ways to turn your garage into one of the most rewarding areas in your home. Here are a few ideas.
Your Own Movie Theater
Love going to the movies but hate crowds? We understand. There’s something special about watching the magic of Hollywood on the big screen. At the same time, it’s also nice to be at home in your pajamas, drinking a glass of wine with nobody to disturb you. Enjoy the best of both worlds. Transform your garage into a cinema and go out to the movies without opening your garage door. SFGate has a great tutorial on converting your garage into your own cinema.
The Man Cave
Garages tend to be his space anyway, so why not make a man cave out of it? For comfort, you’ll want to make sure you have an insulated garage door, and you might consider installing air conditioning and heating systems. You’ll want to lay a subfloor and either put in a nice tile flooring or carpeting. You should also frame the walls and add insulation. And then create the living space of your dreams.
A Playroom for the Kids
Let the little rug rats run wild in the garage and save your sanity. SFGate has some great suggestions on how to turn your dirty garage into a clean and creative play area. Add in soft padded flooring and carpet. Install indoor playground equipment and rope swings. A garage converted playground is great for rainy weather or sun. Simply open the garage door and let them run free.
